Devon Tearooms!

Here is the fifth and final part of the Longhurst’s quest to sample the greatest delights from the finest Devon tearooms.

Hill House Tearoom, Landscove

Hill House Tearoom combines horticulture with high tea to offer a peaceful and practical afternoon out. We head to Hill House Nursery in the tiny village of Landscove (between Totnes and Ashburton), in order to purchase a couple of climbing plants to make our fence look less like a fence. After becoming waylaid by the diversity of herbs and shrubs on offer, we wander into the beautiful gardens and notice the entrance to …

Rose Cottage Tearooms

The third instalment of the Longhurst’s guide to Devon tearooms sees Owen and Jo visit the Rose Cottage Tearooms in Cockington!

Rose Cottage Tearooms, Cockington

After an almost too leisurely stroll around the craft studios (much to my chagrin) and parklands (not at all to my chagrin) of Cockington Court, we arrive at the village centre to enjoy some deserved refreshment. The village of Cockington has the feel of a perfectly woven tapestry. The traditional English thatched cottages, winding hills and greenery invoke the colour-washed, relaxed splendour of a Seurat painting. Feeling relaxed and whimsical, we decide …

The New Forge, Chagford

We are excited to bring you the second installment of the Longhursts’ mission to discover the finest Devon tearooms. This week, Owen and Jo sink their teeth into The New Forge in Chagford!

The New Forge, Chagford

Our summer Sunday morning begins with a 4.5 mile walk, featuring a variety of moors, meadows and woodland. We arrive back in Chagford, an historical town that has a touch of the Postman Pats about it and can only be described as ‘olde worlde’. Tired but invigorated from our trek, we respond to the melancholy cries of our …

Dine in style this winter at The Cary Arms…

The Cary Arms

The Cary Arms

Morrisons Supermarket in Bideford Grand Re-opening!

Morrisons Bideford Re-opening

Morrisons opening ceremony

On this fine day, it just so happened to be an epic morning for the Morrisons in Bideford. It was the grand re-opening for the popular supermarket. Some of our very own Stay in Devon employees just so happened to pop into Morrisons for the ever- so-special ceremony. With a very emotional speech given by one of the longest standing employees and a ribbon cutting ceremony this was the place to have been at 8:30 this morning. Jamie Morris (coincidently similar last name but of no relation) was on site buying savoury sausage rolls and treats for …

Clovelly Herring Festival 2012

Clovelly Herring Festival

Clovelly Herring Festival

Did you know that the Herring is the Silver Darling of the Sea? Well if you didn’t, you’d be sure not to miss Clovelly’s Herring Festival 2012 in North Devon.  Clovelly was once a major hub for herring fishing. This recognized festival is held in support of credible fishing by traditional methods and to celebrate the herring, the Silver Darlings of the sea. There will be herring prepared and cooked in different ways; locally produced beer and ciders, traditional shanty singers, street entertainment, local stalls and the North Devon A.O.N.B will around to provide event themed activities. …

The Day of the Wedding at Bovey Castle

Bovey Castle

Beautiful Bovey Castle

Check out Katie’s account of second day staying at Bovey Castle for the wedding last Saturday…

After a fabulous night’s sleep in our beautiful room at Bovey Castle we awoke to the sun streaming through the windows. We took a look outside and the sun rising over the golf course was very re-freshing. We grabbed our swimming kit and thought we would head to breakfast followed by a stroll around the grounds and a quick swim before we donned our glad rags for the reason we were all here in this magnificent setting – the wedding!

62 The Bank

62 The Bank, Barnstaple

Once again this weekend Katie was out and about in North Devon. Here’s what she got up to on Saturday:

“So it’s Monday again and we have the weekend to talk over in the office.  This weekend was a particularly good one on the food front with a birthday meal at 62 The Bank in Barnstaple for one of my best friends birthdays. There were 10 of us for dinner and drinks and the service, the food, the company and the setting was just faultless. As you do when you all get together it takes ages
